Watercolor Surf Art

I created six large original watercolor paintings for Soulcraft’s Dawn Hooks Artist Series, using vibrant colors and layers of paint. To paint larger pieces like these, I start by painting eight smaller ones. Then, I choose the six I want to paint larger. The challenge here was choosing the best method to stretch the giant pieces of watercolor paper, so they wouldn’t bubble and create unwanted pools of water and paint. After a couple attempts, I decided to tape my paper and work with small sections at a time when using the wet-on-wet technique. Then, I could layer using other techniques.
